THE LITTLE THINGS

Reblogger Cheryl Ritchie

I pick up a six pack of cookies and share them with friends on the way home. Or I get a big pot of soup going in the crock pot and send some to Mom. Or I share my Jelly Bellies this  Halloween with a friend who does  not yet know her Halloween Treat is a favorite sweet.

I went to Traders Jo's and bought some cornbread mix. Its good stuff and very easy to use. You go home, get the one egg, 1/2 cup of oil and cup of milk beat it all up and then put it in a greased pan and 40 minutes later, coming out of your oven is a golden brown, sweet smelling hot delicious corn bread

SO FAR SO GOOD...YUMMY

Let said cornbread cool for about 1/2 hour and then slice it into big portions. Carefully wrap those portions which are still warm in saran wrap and then here is the next best  most important step. Pick-out several of your neighbors at random

HELLO NEIGHBOR

Knock on their doors and say unto to them: I just baked some hot delicious cornbread and I thought you would like some. Be prepared for honesty, humility, love and respect to all come alive along with genuine feelings and true to life experiences for you both

THIS GOES A LONG WAY

Continue from neighbor to neighbor until gone. Have a nice evening. Repeat as necessary too. Also, this is not limited to just the neighborhood either. Remember to take some to work and share personally with others or if you like, go see a family member and bring this along

DRINK-UP BOYS...I'M BUYING

I am also known for giving out drinks on hot days especially to the guys that pick-up the trash. Yes its true that I wont take the time to bundle up all those branches that the city code says must be tied up and what have you...however

OKAY...SO I TRADE A LITTLE

What I do is make up for it with the cold drinks and if I am home, I go out and help them load it too. When out and about, I often hold the door open for people who accept gladly and I have never seen the power of please and thank you to fail in anything. Add manners and courtesy to these dynamics as well

The Math:

Cornbread...$1.50 Egg, oil and milk...$.50 cents...Saran wrap .05 cents...my time=free. Total: $2.05 cents in actually costs but valued exceedingly more than that. On the drinks that I give out to the guys, those cost me a $1.00 for a large decent tasty drink and to me, worth much more in value given and received

My pleases and thank yous, holding doors open, courtesy and manners given cost nothing and again carry much value in the invisible world.

It is amazing that $2.00 worth of cornbread or a dollar drink or non-material items and conduct can amount to so much when given and practiced on others. Try it for yourself and see.

PRICELESS

I just had frozen rolls from Trader Joes when I visited a friend for dinner.  Sounds like I need to visit a TJ!

Yes, Richie's blog was spot on.  Here in Hendersonville NC we have a Aldie's store which is becoming more and more like a Trader Joe's.  The store is always busy and there are many opportunities for a random act of kindness.
