The end of October is the usual time when frost kills our tender plants. Some parts of central Pennsylvania already have had a light frost, so it looks like it’s the end of our growing season.
It’s with great sadness Cede (the dog) and I picked the last tomatoes, tomatillos, spaghetti squash, basil and eggplants a few days ago.
So, we take a deep breath, relax and get ready for the hard work cultivating and amending the soil.
Before you know it, the Spring seed catalogs will begin arriving in the mail. I must admit, this is the type of the bulk mail I look forward to viewing, especially as the snow falls in the Winter.
It may be the end our 2014 harvest, but not for the hard work. The time has begun to clear away the Summer vegetation and to prepare for the cold Winter months ahead.
(stay tuned for tips on getting your garden ready for the Spring later this week)
