Christmas tree cutting time again in Colorado, get your permits - WOW, this one really snuck up on me this year. Every year since my wife and I have been together we have gone out and cut our own Christmas tree, and we will be heading out again this year to do the sam
e.
We usually go online and register for our permit, and unfortunately we missed the deadline for early online registration for Jefferson County, but we can still drive up Highway 285 just a few short miles Southwest of Denver and pick up our permits. We have gone to the Buffalo Creek area for at least 20 of those years, and sadly a forest fire raged through the area about 17 years ago, this is the big reason the forest service allows tree cutting, to thin areas that might be hazardous should a fire get started.
If you are new to Colorado and want to experience a wonderful tradition, or start your own, I highly recommend taking the family up to the mountains for a day and cutting your own tree. When we lived in the mountains we would pick one from our own lot, the boys loved going outside and helping us select the tree, after we moved down into the city we kept the tradition alive and now we have another young couple that has joined us and look forward to making it a part of their annual holiday season ritual.
