If you have any exterior honey-do projects, whatever they may be, now is the time to tackle those projects, before the snow begins falling. Cold, snow, and rain can do a number to a home, so you don’t want to overlook winter maintenance.
- Cover the outside AC unit with a tarp or plastic sheeting and secure with bungee cords. If you have window units, remove and store them.
- Turn off and flush outdoor water faucets. Also flush hoses and store them. Winterize sprinkler systems as well, if you have one.
- If you have a chimney, have it cleaned. Some homeowners say to do this in the spring, some say fall -- just make sure it’s done annually.
- Check driveway/pavement for cracks and them repaired before winter; water can freeze and expand in the cracks, causing more damage.
- Schedule the snow blower for a maintenance check up and make certain good snow shovels and de-icing materials are ready for winter. (View these eco-friendly alternatives to melt your winter ice.) -- You never know when that first snow will come!
Maintenance tasks neglected now can be this winter's nightmare.
