What Can I Buy For My Money In NoVA?

By

There are plenty of HGTV, BRAVO and A&E network TV shows that talk about “what you get for the money” in certain areas of the country. If you are a prospective buyer relocating to Northern Virginia or already living here and considering a home purchase the same question applies only on a much more micro level.  In Northern Virginia prices can change dramatically  "inside or outside the beltway."

Just to give you a general idea take a look at this chart from the MLS. It shows the “average” home price for three areas in Northern Virginia. The first is the Woodbridge zip code of 22192, the second is the Springfield zip code of 22152 and the third is the Falls Church zip code of 22046.

You can see a dramatic difference in prices for detached SOLD homes over the last 6 months between the three areas.  These numbers are averages and for any neighborhood you are considering they would have to be broken down much further to help you make an offer on a particular property.  What it does clearly show is as you get closer to DC the prices are higher.

As you are searching for a new home there are a wide variety of factors to consider.  Price is one factor but what amenities are you look for in my neighborhood?  Do you want to walk to shopping and nightlife?   What will your commute be like?   How long do you plan on living in your new home?  These are just a few of the questions you need to think about before you start your home search.

If you want a bigger house heading south to Woodbridge where the VRE, a commuter bus or joining a slug line may be the right answer for you.  If you want to be a bit closer to DC but still want a bigger home then neighborhoods in Springfield might be your cup of joe.  If a smaller home where you can walk to the shops and restaurants suits you then Falls Church may be the answer.

If you are thinking about buying a new home in the next few months check out CallNovaHome for listings updated from the MLS every 15 minutes.  Then give me call at 703-346-2213.  Let’s sit down and talk about not only the price of the home you want to buy but all of the other pieces of the home ownership puzzle.  Let us help you find the right neighborhood for you to call home.

Cindy Jones What's that phrase we use all the time? Location, Location, Location! I would do be looking to an expert like you to guide me in where to live, what would traffic be like, shopping.

Would not want to figure this out alone!

Thom in our area location can be the difference between a 30 minute commute to a 2 hour one.  Shortly we will have new HOT lanes open which are also going to change how some of us commute along the I95 corridor, me included.
