Whether local folks or out-of-towners, the result is always the same when one chooses to step into the path of a car. And in this case, there was no "strength in numbers".
This death was yet another falling under the watch of Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings and Orlando Police Chief John W. Mina.
FHP: New York man killed crossing John Young Parkway
A New York man was killed crossing John Young Parkway early Saturday, a Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Benjamin Meza, 47, of New Rochelle, N.Y., was crossing the road near National Parks Drive with a 27-year-old man whose name was not released, said Sgt. Kim Montes, an FHP spokeswoman.
The pedestrians were hit by a 2009 Ford Focus around 12:16 a.m., Montes said. Investigators said they stepped into the path of the oncoming car, driven by 19-year-old Giampaolo Ramirez of Orlando.
Both were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where Meza was pronounced dead.
