Have you seen the 1989 aerobic dance video that fits perfectly to the new Taylor Swift song? I just spent four minutes watching it. My first inclination was to say it was four minutes that I'll never get back. But, I must admit, the synchrony of it all and the fact that someone recognized it is impressive.
I think we can learn two important things from both Taylor and YouTuber, Thomas Jung, who matched and created the mash up video with Taylor's latest hit.
Taylor Swift was born in 1989, the same year the aerobic video was made. In a marketing class for my MBA program I learned a little trick marketers use. If their demographic is 20 year olds, they will couple the marketing with songs that the mother & father would have listened to twenty years ago. There is substantial proof that we are affected from day one, even in utero, to the music in our environment. This music impacts our emotions, and we all know emotions are the target of marketing. Now I don't know if Taylor Swift's mom was into Jazzercise. However, I do know that we must always remember how emotions impact our clients and their decisions. Decisions to buy, sell and how they choose an agent. Millennials are a big market... how are you reaching them?
The second lesson here is in the song itself. I don't know about you, but theme songs always give me energy. Before I meet with a client I always listen to upbeat and positive songs. Our energy levels transfer over into everything we do. Nothing can uplift your mood and bring positive energy more than a great song about strength. We work in a field job with a lot of rejection. This song provides great advice... shake it off!
