Langley High School serves students living in McLean, as well as parts of Vienna and Great Falls in Fairfax County. Langley High School is part of Cluster 1 and the Langley High School pyramid, falling within the Fairfax County Public School System (FCPS) district. The FCPS system is the largest public school system in Northern VA. The mission at Langley High School is to have teachers help all students develop into ethical and productive citizens by providing an atmosphere that is academically challenging and enriching.
Langley High School serves students in grades 9 through 12 and offers several diploma options including a standard diploma, advanced studies diploma and a modified diploma.
A diverse group of students attend Langley, feeding in from Cooper Middle School and 5 elementary schools which are located near to Langley High School: Churchill Road, Colvin Run, Forestville, Great Falls and Spring Hill.
Students living in homes in communities such as McLean Hamlet, Langley Oaks, Woodside Estates, Timberlake Estates, Beverly Manor, Broyhill Langley, Colvins Glen and Carpers Farm are all within the boundaries that report to Langley High School. The Fairfax County Public School system has created a convenient boundary locator that can assist residents in determining which public school their child is eligible to attend based on where houses are located.
In addition to providing academic services to students in grades 9 through 12, Langley High School also offers programs for autistic students, exchange students and students interested in an internship program. The program for autistic students is implemented with the help of peer helpers and student assistants. The Educational and Cultural Exchange program is carried out with students in Russia, Germany and England (Oxford University). The Langley Leap program is a 10-day internship where seniors have an opportunity to work at local businesses, schools and community service organizations to see where their future career interests may lie.
Langley High School students strive for excellence in academics, artistic fields and athletics. Langley has a very comprehensive Advanced Placement program which offers students many advanced placement-level classes in every major discipline. A very high percentage of the student body take these Advanced Placement Courses in preparation for future college study and a high percentage of Langley students go on to pursue a college degree. Langley High School also offers advanced-level math courses as well as being one of the few schools in Fairfax County that offers Russian classes to its students.
Langley High School offers students Band, Choral and Orchestra programs, all of which are award-winning. The Theater program has received Cappie awards for recent productions. Langley has a Fashion Marketing department which puts on an annual fashion show to sell-out crowds.
Over the years, the athletic department has seen over 30 AAA state championships in lacrosse, tennis, swimming and diving, golf, cross country, gymnastics and softball.
Langley's academic excellence was recently displayed when several Langley High School students placed high in the county's Science and Engineering Fair.
Langley High School also again demonstrated its high academic standards when it was ranked #6 in the state in the 2012 US News and World Report top high school rankings. All of the high schools were evaluated against state proficiency standards, student preparedness for college, and other factors.
