As more and more people are coming in to Idaho for Prepper properties I get requests for remote properties.
The vast majority of people coming in to North Idaho are coming for the same thing. People are looking for a bug out property that they can also use for recreation or their new home site. We pretty much all have the same thought process to survive well in tough times. The lay of the land, the trees and the location have a lot to do with how private it is. While it might be your dream to have 500 acres and put your house in the middle of it, those don't come up very often and they aren't cheap. Sometimes you can have a 10 acre piece that is situated just right and have a thick forest that you could get lost on and never see or hear a neighbor. While most of us come up with the idea at some point and time to be way out in the middle of no where and nobody can find us sounds ideal but there are a few things to think about.
What is your definition of remote? We have some properties that are very remote. They are off the grid, with the only winter access is a snowmobile, or rough roads that you are dealing with all by yourself. While it may sound perfect at first, think about the everyday life. Do you have a job to get to or kids in school? Does the sound of using a sled to get your groceries to the house sound daunting. If so I suggest something a little more accessible.
Maybe something a little out of town where you have your privacy but good accessibilty might be more to your liking.
Mother nature has a funny way of teaching us all leasons and we do have 4 seasons here. Deciding how remote is too remote is one of the first steps.
