Help: Home Owner Insurance for Rehabbers???

By
Real Estate Agent with Smart Green Realty

My buyers are buying a "fixer" that needs a major rehab. Can they get regular home owners insurance? They may decide to rent an apartment nearby while the work is being done. What is the smart thing for them to do?

My insurance agent would find a policy.  It wouldn't be "regular" homeowners insurance; it would have some exclusions.  Once the house is complete, they would remove the exclusions.

Talk with a local independent insurance agent!

Zeta, I am not an insurance agent, so don't have an answer to your question. However, I would have your buyers talk with their insurance agent, I would talk with my insurance agent, and I would talk with any other insurance agents I had a relationship with to find out what can be done.

I appreciate that, Fred Griffin of Tallahassee. I wish my buyers had your insurance agent! Any idea what kinds of exclusions and what price differential?
