Thanksgiving Gratitude
Sally Cheeseman has challenged ActiveRain bloggers to participate in her November contest Defining Gratitude and Goals.
I was very grateful to have the opportunity to have Thanksgiving dinner with family members who live in the Washington, DC area. This year, the dinner was at the home of the Wilsons in Arlington, Virginia. I am grateful for this extended family because the Wilsons are the the in-laws of a niece who lives in Alexandria.
Perhaps, I should have started this blog by reminding you that I am grateful to have the best wife in the world. Dolores and I have been married for over 49 years.
Thanksgiving was a pick up and delivery day because we were picked up by one of my sisters and her husband for the ride to Virginia from our home in Maryland. My sisters and their husbands are some of the nicest people you would ever meet.
During the Thanksgiving dinner, we chatted about some of the family history and recalled memories of many who are no longer alive. My twin sisters were born when I was a senior in high school so most of my childhood memories took place before they were born. Having a loving and supportive family are among the blessings that create much gratitude.
One of the many lessons of family relationships is that the created memories will include the good and the bad. As we travel through the years, and especially when we are getting older, creating positive memories for those who will be talking about us at future Thanksgiving dinners is something to keep in mind and may be well worth some extra effort.
