When we suggest to one of our clients that they might consider painting their home prior to putting it on the market, we usually look at neutral colors. We're not only talking about off-whites; neutrals can now include many grays, khakis and taupes. We use the standard phrase, "...we want it to appeal to the most number of buyers."
However, when we're showing homes, I find myself gravitating towards the bolder tones--the chocolates, the persimmons, the "spices".
After 7 years in our house, my wife Tammie and I are taking the plunge. We're going to paint our Great Room. I've already painted several rooms in the house, but in this case we're going to hire a painter. The room has a ceiling height of close to 18 feet and while I may be a DIYer, I'm not crazy!
The problem is choosing the color.
We have been using some color collections put together by Sherwin Williams and HGTV. That does help the rooms "flow", colorwise. At least that's what they say... You see, Tammie considers me somewhat "color challenged". Just the other day she said, "Do you own any shirts that aren't blue?"
What to do? I know the difference between painting to sell and painting for your own style, but the decision is now upon us.
I think I'll just leave it up to her. Uh oh...She just called me a coward. And something else!
