Where does radon come from?

By
Home Inspector with Prudent Home Inspection, Inc
Most radon enter homes due to air pressure differences between inside air and outside air. When air is vented from a building by natural or powered ventilation, radon and other soil gases are drawn in from surrounding soil through opening between the house and soil. The potential hazard of high levels of radon gas exist in new homes, old homes, two story homes. All homes located anywhere in the state should be tested for radon.

Thinks for the info....We have a radon system in our house...How do you know if it is working properly? Is there a some type of test that I should run?

Radon come's from ground composed of shale in some places.  We had lot's of shale when I lived in Gettysburg, PA.  Now I live in South Florida and I have a Radon detector as well..As I understand it if you drill down 4' in Florida, you hit water. Then again, under the water could be more shale.

Sent you an email.

Your system should have a nanometer installed. (U shaped guage) and one side should read higher than the other.  To ensure that a system is doing the job....measure.

Radon can come from private water sources as well.
