This Agent and Real Estate Radio Network

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Sometimes I write what I call public service announcements (PSAs) and what other people call a lawsuit waiting to happen, especially when those other people are unhappy with my thoughts about a subject near and dear to themselves or my presentation of the facts.

Not that it would change my opinion or alter what I have to say. People often forget that we are all entitled to our own opinion and we might interpret things differently than somebody else. As long as we're being honest and truthful and not making up any crap, we are allegedly free in this country to say whatever we believe -- although some of us who lived through the '60s may disagree.

Imagine my reaction to an offer from Real Estate Radio Network to turn me into a Sacramento real estate radio star. An offer that costs some serious bucks with no guarantee, so you know what that makes it. I have friends who broadcast successful radio shows, like Margaret Rome in Baltimore, but this is not that. You can read more in my personal blog today about How to Not a Be a Real Estate Radio Star.

Having come from radio sales, I will say there are many ads passing as programs.  If a real estate agents wants to do a show, if they don't have advertisers, they must pay to play.  Sounds like what was happening here.  There were trying to sell you airtime.   And the weekends on talk radio is where that happens.

Elizabeth, I know that Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland does well with her show, but my broker here gave it a try and it didn't turn out so well...slightly different market though.

Thanks for the mention. I am having so much fun with the radio show. You have an open invitation to call in as my guest. But then you would have to get up to early on a Sunday morning.

This sounds like a great way to make some decent money, Elizabeth.  For the Real Estate Radio network, not for you.

Elizabeth without reading your second post I can tell you I would like to hear your "side" of things.  I think you would be a radio star but yo would make some enemies because of your frankness

Elizabeth, we have a REALTOR in my office that does a Saturday morning radio show, and it takes a lot to put together every week.  Good luck!

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Hi Chris Ann: I think this company's angle is it shows agents how to attract advertisers, and charges them for it on top of charging for airtime. If you get enough advertisers, then the advertisers will pay for your expenses, and if you get more than you need, you might make a profit. Of some kind. I think selling real estate is an easier way to make a living.

Hi Nick: I don't listen to the radio but every so often I will hear from somebody who heard me on the radio. I've done a few call-in guest things, but I surely did not pay for it, LOL. More people than I suspect listen to radio.

Hi Margaret, Yes, given the time of your show and the time difference between East and West do not help.

Hi Gabe: Lots of entrepreneuers are looking for ways to make money from an association with real estate agents. Can't blame them for that, I guess.

Hi James: See, the good thing about me is I know when to keep my mouth shut. Just because a frank thought appeared in my brain doesn't mean it's likely to roll out of my mouth, unless I feel like it.

Hi Conrad: In a smaller town, I imagine radio is a lot more powerful.

Hi Joan: I can't even think far enough ahead to figure out what my article will be come a Saturday morning for About.com, that I seriously doubt there is any room in my brain to plan a radio show.

If it's a great deal then let them find the advertisers to support the show & you. Then you can see if you have the time :)

I think opinions are valuable; especially when we don't all agree.  How else can we communicate and get anywhere if we don't say what we really think.

For someone starting out to get themselves known, who knows, might work. For you who is #1 already, THEY should pay YOU to attract advertisers. I get calls all the time for advertising ploys. Hey, how did they find ME? I must be doing something right.
