I had the pleasure and honor of meeting with an old friend this morning. He and his family have been in the Timber / lumber business since “Creation!” (They have many generations in the business!) They are a very stable company and have great integrity!
During our conversation he mentioned that with the housing market slowed, they have also felt the crunch in their business seeing how lumber is closely tied to new housing. But on the flip side, they have seen these times come and go before. In other words, these times WILL pass.
We were getting together to talk about 755 acres we are going to sell for him later this year. He had questions about the market and wanted my take on it. As we talked, he mentioned recently reading an article in which it had been noted that rural, raw land in TN has seen an average of a 12% gain steadily for the past 40 years! Looking for a good “fund” into which to put some investment money, I think this one has a great rack record! It is really hard to go wrong with an investment in land here in TN.
We are constantly amazed at prices paid for land! But we tend to be even more amazed as they turn it for a profit time and again. I always ask myself, “Why didn’t I buy that?” If you are looking for a great investment, start looking for some land for sale around you. Do your research and do not be afraid to pay fair market value. Time has shown, you will be able to make money on your real estate investment.
