I'm selling a duplex at 941 26th St. Oakland CA 94607.
I put in the confidential remarks that it was being shown "only to people with money." I got a few calls from agents and one of their questions was, "What do you mean by 'showing only to people with money? Do you mean cash only?'"
I told them no. A financed offer was OK. What I meant was that it was being shown only to people who were pre-approved or had proof of funds. Some agents show properties without checking to see if the buyer is able to buy, you know?
This duplex is rented and it's hard to show. I have to post a 24 Hours Notice to Enter on the tenants' doors. I have to fill a form stating how I notified them, when, and at what time...and if I was in a good mood or not :) And I phone them also.
If the place is vacant, and an agent wants to show it to an unqualified buyer, OK...maybe.
Anyway, I got a courtesy notice from my MLS saying that that remark was in violation of HUD/Fair Housing laws, and that they had removed it for me.
I said to the MLS thanks for not fining me $200.
