It's Raining... Bouncy Balls? An AMAZING Sight

Back in 2008, Sony created a little bit of havoc in San Francisco. It was a truly rubbery situation. Literally.

As a marketing ploy, Sony threw thousands of rubbery bouncy balls from the top of inclined streets and captured all the magnificent bounciness you can imagine on video and shared it with the world. I originally found this video in a blog post from lifestyle blogger, Diana Mieczan (her original blog is located here) about this phenomenal marketing ploy, and I thought about sharing this extreme marketing tactic with you all too.

As you'll see in the video below, onlookers gazed out of windows and behind walls in amazement at a rainbow of balls falling to the earth in swarms of colors and shapes. It was actually RAINING (or should I say hailing?) bright colors of bouncy balls everywhere!

Do you remember hearing this crazed event? Talk about one great marketing strategy. No one would ever forget about this one...at least in that neighborhood... not to mention the cleanup. I'm sure people were finding bouncy balls for months after this!

It makes you wonder - how far would you go to make your brand known and remembered? Just a thought.

How far would you go?

Have a Rain-tastic weekend!

Mary: This looks like a fun marketing ploy, but was any thought given to the balls making their way to the city sewers and the ocean? Too much pollution already!

Anita Clark It most definitely is... and based on the millions of hits that all of these videos on YouTube generated over the past 8 years, we know that it's a hit!

Norm Padula, JD, GRI, CDPE I agree - there could be more damage than good to the environment... and who knows if anyone had experienced any property damage. Good marketing... realistic? Definitely not!
