The Ego is Bruised, But the Fanny is Okay - Embarrassing Moments

Want to have some great laughs, or share one of your most embarrassing moments?   Kathleen Daniels is sponsoring the November ActiveRain Contest - I Cannot Believe I Just Did THAT!  Stop by Kathleen Daniels' post to have a barrel of laughs.

This is one of my more embarrassing moments:

It wasn’t a morning I felt like driving and showing homes, but this poor gal, 8 ½ months pregnant was anxious to find a home before delivering the baby, and the return home of her husband from Afghanistan in six weeks.  We arrived at the home, and fortunately the sidewalk and driveway had been shoveled, but where was the lockbox?    Unfortunately, the supra lockbox was on the side door of the garage (next to a very steep hill), and the sidewalk was a solid sheet of ice, about 2 inches thick and a good twenty feet from the driveway. I advised my Buyer to stay put on the porch and I would return with the key.

Ice on sidewalkI took two steps off driveway onto the sidewalk and and went schlip ** screaming a few choice words, as I fell on my butt.  Thank goodness my butt is nice and padded so it was a soft thing to land on.  Well, as I tried to roll and get up from a kneeing position to get my footing, I fell again, this time on my front, right underneath an ice jammed melting eaves. I couldn’t get up, and my pants were soaked.  Over and over I rolled to get off the ice and onto the snow, eventually grabbing a thorny bush to stop myself sliding down an icy patch on the hill.  I was finally able to stand and walked on little patches of grass to get to my car.

Fall on Ice

The only thing that was hurt was my ego.  Thank goodness my Buyer didn’t fall and that my car had heated seats to keep my wet fanny warm until I got back home to put on a dry pair of pants.

Bette one of the roughest parts of being a Realtor is dealing with bad weather and lock boxes and also in combination. Add 8 ½ months pregnant and it is rough. Good story, glad you made it without getting hurt.

Hi Bette,  I'm glad that was the only thing you bruised.  The things we have to do for our clients!  Some of the things I have done in the past makes me wish someone had a video camera rolling.  Of course I didn't think so at the time.

Thiis made me laugh because it's not a problem we face here in NC.  If it snows, everyone just stays home!

Everyone - thanks for commenting, and for real, I wasn't bruised, but the thorny bushes did prick me through my gloves.  The positive attitude broke my falls.

Glad you didn't get hurt, Bette, but that sounds like a scene out of a comedy.  I hope after all of that, you found that client a home shortly thereafter!

The same day, I found her a home "way up the mountain" along the Appalachin Trail. Good thing it wasn't summer, or I would have tripped over a copperhead John Meussner.

Bette,

You are a real trooper and I am sure your buyer was eternally grateful for you finding them a home in less than stellar conditions.

Bette,  Thankfully you were not hurt - or at least not seriously injured. As you were describing how you kept slipping as you tried to get up ... I was thinking ... she's fallen and she can't get up!

Thank you for participating in the contest.

I can't even imagine falling in the ice and snow.  In Georgia we just say no in ice and snow... it's not the norm and only lasts a day or two, no one goes out in it to see homes.

Good afternoon Bette .. the perils of our business.  So glad only your ego was bruised.  I hate when these things happen.  You have the best attitude!

Very transparent and funny. That's a great idea to share "silly moments" to create connections and share laughs. I'd say just use the professional filter for how much you share. There's things that need to remain unknown :)
