Day 17 of my November blogs - Do I look like a Villain?

The temperature here in Michigan today is FREEZING! There's no other nicer way to say it, but call it like it is.  So I ended my day today about 3:30 PM and I'm just pulling out of bank after making an ATM deposit and I look up and I see this young lady and a small child.  The little boy looks like he's about 6 or 7 and he doesn't have on a big winter coat, but he does have a scarf and hat on and you can tell they were both cold.  Mind you, the wind is blowing and it feels like someone slapping you with a sheet of ice.  So, I'm pulling out slowly and roll down my window and ask, "Can I offer you a lift home, it's really cold out here?" - Well, she didn't say anything, so I figured she must have not heard me, so I'm now driving slowly and pull up next to them on the curb and ask the question again.

Well, this time - She yells out: "I said NO! the first time, didn't you hear me?"

I politely stated, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you, I know that it's freezing out here and I just wanted to give you and your child a lift home and get you out of this cold".

So, do I look like a Villain? or have we now become a society that we are so afraid of getting or taking help from someone, that we immediately think about fear or think about something bad happening?  We have lost our sense of receiving help and or giving help.

It's only 18 degrees now - with a windchill factor of zero degrees.  It's no joke out here and I just felt bad for the child because he really wasn't dressed for this freezing cold day.

Interesting post as I was just thinking of this exact topic within the last 24hrs! it is truly sad we cannot lend a helping hand or others accept it when we try as oru whole society has been jaded by the media and the few bad ones who spoil it for everyone else...

Sad and I feel for them both

Graziella, unfortunately we now live in a jaded society. We do not trust anyone we don't know, and do not interact with strangers. That is just the world we live in now.

Unfortunately, people have become living in fear - or in cynicism.  Sad.

Don't let this hard-hearted person stop you from being courteous and civil and helpful.  There are plenty of people who would accept your kind offer.

Graziella, I agree with you.  I miss the simpler times when we trusted people.  I have a pickup truck and have found that people in that situation are more inclined to take a ride if they can jump in the back.  Unfortunately the bad people of the world have made everyone apprehensive.

There has to be a reason that seemed right to that person to refuse the ride. We can't help everyone, but that doesn't mean you stop trying

Thanks for the comments,  I totally agree with all of your comments!  - I won't let a NO, stop me - I always take a NO as a NEXT and Move on! Their loss, not mine! Stay warm!  We have another Freezing Day today!

Pride.  The mother who is angry that she is out in the cold, creates a negative with her "NO" attitude.  You don't look like a villian.  I remember handing some cash to a pan-handling once.  I always say "I'm going to trust you won't be buying booze or illegal drugs with this, since I don't want to support that, but do what to see you have something to eat today."  The guy threw my cash back at me through my opened window, told me to "Go #$)@ youself." Then gave me a barrage of hate becasue I dared to say what I did.  So, my conclusion is . . . apparently beggars actually can be chosers.

I like being a blessing - it's sad for those who can not receive the blessings that are coming forth - but it's their loss, not ours!  We tried to do what was good!
