The temperature here in Michigan today is FREEZING! There's no other nicer way to say it, but call it like it is. So I ended my day today about 3:30 PM and I'm just pulling out of bank after making an ATM deposit and I look up and I see this young lady and a small child. The little boy looks like he's about 6 or 7 and he doesn't have on a big winter coat, but he does have a scarf and hat on and you can tell they were both cold. Mind you, the wind is blowing and it feels like someone slapping you with a sheet of ice. So, I'm pulling out slowly and roll down my window and ask, "Can I offer you a lift home, it's really cold out here?" - Well, she didn't say anything, so I figured she must have not heard me, so I'm now driving slowly and pull up next to them on the curb and ask the question again.
Well, this time - She yells out: "I said NO! the first time, didn't you hear me?"
I politely stated, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you, I know that it's freezing out here and I just wanted to give you and your child a lift home and get you out of this cold".
So, do I look like a Villain? or have we now become a society that we are so afraid of getting or taking help from someone, that we immediately think about fear or think about something bad happening? We have lost our sense of receiving help and or giving help.
It's only 18 degrees now - with a windchill factor of zero degrees. It's no joke out here and I just felt bad for the child because he really wasn't dressed for this freezing cold day.
