Ten Great Things To Do In Naples, FL on a Cold Day When You Can't Hit the Beach

When you think of Naples, Florida, you do not think cold and rainy. I didn't. When you find yourself wondering what to do until the sun comes out and you are back on the beach And when you think of Naples, FL, you think it is only for babyboomer retirees!  But, here you are in Naples, with maybe the whole family just busting to be out on the beach and a cold front comes through and you are wondering how to entertain everyone! It happens a lot over the holidays.  Thanksgiving week, and you are stuck indoors.  So what do you do?

Rainy Day Things a Kid Would Like:

Well, why don't you take them to a Disney movie, playing at the Silverspot Cinema. The  movie theater has reserved seats.  You can go online and book your seat and not have to wait in line.  How good is that. Pick your seat and whisk your children in to their favorite kids movie that is always playing at the Silverspot in Mercato. After the movie, you can find lots of restaurants in Mercato that children will like.  How bout a burger at The Counter, or you could get a flatbread pizza at Naples Flatbread Pizza just steps from the movie.

And then there is Chuck E Cheese.  Kids of all ages love Chuck E. Chees, don't they?!

You could go to the Ritz-Carlton and see the gingerbread houses over the Christmas and maybe go to the  wonderful afternoon tea in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton.

Want to see a shiny red firetruck?  Everyone does!  There are fire stations dotted around Collier County. Go to www.northnaplesfire.com for locations.  Maybe they will let you wear their hat or sit on the fire engine.  "cool".

Collier County has some great libraries with lots of programs for kids.  Go to www.collierlibrary.net to check out what is going on!

Naples recently opened the Golisano Children's Museum to rave reviews!  Tons of fun things to do for children of all ages.  Even us "big kids". Their cafeteria offers gluten free food and healthy snacks.

Florida Panther at the Naples Zoo, Naples, FL

The Naples Zoo and Carribean Gardens is so fun!!!  I loved the boat ride through the islands filled with monkeys and lemurs. You will see Florida panthers with their beautiful tawny coats and very large paws!  You can see giant giraffes, and watch as they feed the huge alligators!

The Naples Botanical Gardens contain so many unique  sub tropical Florida flora and fauna that you might not see in Northern climates.  And you can take your dog.  They charge 9.95 per dog but you can only take one. What a wonderful way to walk your dog!

Shop 'Til You Drop!

You might start at Naple's famous  Fifth Avenue South.  So many wonderful boutiques, restaurants, you could just spend the whole day on Fifth Avenue.  The Naples Players  offer local actors and  musicians performing at the Sugden Community Theater, a landmark on Naples Fifth Avenue South.  Just off Fifth,  Von Liebig Art Center offers  frequent exhibitions of local artists and would be a wonderful way to spent a rainy afternoon in Naples . Art classes are also offered.

Don't miss Waterside Shops in North Naples.  World Class, upscale shops abound! Ferragamo, Ralph LaurenLululemon , www.jcrew.com, Nordstroms and many, many more. Have a salad or pizza  at California Pizza Kitchen or check out the wonderful Italian specialties at Brio's  Last but not least, Waterside Shops has everyones favorites:  An Apple Store and Starbuck's

See, Even a raining Day in Naples can be like no other.  Enjoy

Yes, we have more things to do than go to the beach!  Our Florida panthers are really beautiful and our zoo has a way to keep them looking as though they are in their habitat.  Thanks for your comments!
