Don't tar me with that brush! Staging in Burlington

By
Home Stager

When will we in the Real Estate Industry ever be free of those negative images!

I realize that there are disreputable in every profession but most of us are very ethical.

That tired old idea that Stagers and Realtors try to hide the negatives about a house just won't die.

The latest in my area is a commercial by Canadian Tire stores. It refers to Classic Staging with Kitchen Aid appliances. If you watch it you will see that it implies that the staging was used to hide a major problem with the house.

Enough! Stagers do not advise clients to hide flaws. We strongly advise our clients to fix problems before going on the market and if they can't, to reveal the issues up front.

Staging is not meant to hide anything. It is used to highlight the features of the home. We want our clients to put a sound product on the market so that they can compete for the buyer's dollars.

A petition has been started to ask Canadian Tire to change the commercial.

Hope you'll sign it too!

 UPDATE:

After being contacted about the negative nature of their commercial, Canadian Tire has agreed to scrap the commercial after it's airing on Wednesday. They were unaware that our industry fights this stigma re hiding problems in houses.

Janice,  Wow – what an attack on stagers and Kitchen Aid appliances.  What were they thinking!  Don’t tar you with that tire.  And, I signed the Petition!

I just read the update too. That's great that they agreed to scrap the commercial. That was a costly mistake. Someone did not do their homework. These so-called "experts" we all hire who really don't know what they need to know to do their jobs!!!

Kathleen Daniels thanks for your support! I was about to e-mail Kitchen Aid to make sure they were aware of the negative way their products were being advertised. I'm really glad that Kristy lead the charge and got the commercial off the air. You are right it must have been a costly mistake by someone.

I've never heard of Canadian Tire....they sell appliances???? Not tires????

I'm so confused.

I've been following this on facebook and was very happy to hear the commercial won't be run any more.

Sharon Tara Canadian Tire started out as a tire/car store. As it grew it added hunting &sports equipment, electrical and lighting, paint, cleaning products, home accessories, small appliances, dishes and more. They have survived the big box stores and continue to compete well.

No matter what, none of us will ever please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Glad to hear the commericial was stopped. I believe professional stagers are a must for our industry.
