Paonia Eagles Football Team Goes All the Way...State Champions
What a great game played by both Paonia and Buena Vista, but the Paonia Eagles came out on top to win the Colorado Division 1A State Football Championship. The final score is 21 - 7. The game was played in Paonia.
The Eagles started off strong. The Buena Vista Demons couldn't even get a first down until the second quarter of the game. In the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Demons capitalized on a well done on side kick and started heading down the field. Anticipation built on the Paonia side of the field. The Demons came within half a yard of scoring another touchdown, but the Paonia defense held on. That was the final play of the game. Paonia took over on downs and there were less than two minutes left in the game. The Eagles took a knee and let the clock run out.
The Eagles finished this season undefeated. In the last two seasons, the team has only lost one game. The team won the state championship last year, too.
Congratulations Paonia Eagles!!! Well done and thanks for a great season. I can't wait for next year.
