If You Need a License..think TWICE about Doing it Yourself

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty 414-525-0563 57026-90 Broker

There are lots of occupations that the government says require a license to practice for the general population.  If you want to....give your child, sister, neighbor a hairhaircutcut..there are licensed beauticians and barbers...and in the scheme of scheme of things....a "bad hair day" cut or color does not have long term disasterous consequences.

Probably not much harm done if you paint your gal pal's nails and file them done rather than going to a licensed nail technician.

polishing nails  When there is more money, more cause to examine the health and welfare issues that surround the licensed task....people need to take a second look at the"do it yourself method" before proceeding.

A Pro Se divorce...while sounding like it saves thousands of dollars in legal expense...can result in spending more money on legal fees and unresolved issues when they are dealt with post divorce than had they been resolved before the gavel hit the final  time declaring the marriage irretrievably broken and the couple legally divorced.

gavel What IF....

   - The house that was ordered to refinanced or sold

to remove a spouse from the mortgage has no equity ?

  - Who will pay for possible extensive repairs required to enable the house to

financed  by the new buyer ?

  - Are there adjustments made in compensation for improvements made by

one now former spouse..how is the value of those improvements calculated ?

- How are other expenses recovered or claimed...property taxes, insurance..

  and the list goes on....

The stress of divorce and the emotional roller coaster that can be part of the process sometimes ignores these situations and others that are unknown and not considered at the time...it is about..."getting it over with quickly and inexpensively" without realizing possible future expenses for these and other situations not yet experienced by a couple who is no longer a couple.Divorce house

Even an attorney will not represent themselves in court in any legal matter.  They know better and everyone does not know it all.

Hi Sally.  A lawyer that represents himself has a fool for a client.  Always hire an expert.

Yikes!  What a mess.

By the way, I used to paint my mothers' nails.  She filed and prepared, and I painted.  And I kind of liked the smell!

Buying and selling homes is very EMOTIONAL  and with divorce there is more added emotions and stress. Its a win-win to have a team of agents on your side when dealing with divorce who understand and can guide you in the right direction when selling.

Sally,

Absolutely well said.  I have no idea why there are so many DIY folks out there.  In many ways they are not saving money, because in many cases, they may be losing money.  I remember walking into a house that had crownmolding.  From a distance it looked good, however, up close, it was clearly a shoddy job...A

Here's the thing about "licensing" folks . . . it's a numbers game.

There are X number of people going for their real estate license.  Of that X number, there are going to be a lot more than folks going to cosmetology school.

Real estate license schools get their money from volume business.

Cosmetology schools get their money from the length of time it takes to pass their test.

Sally you are so right.  There is so much bad advice out there when it comes to divorce and Real Estate.  Those who are facing these issue truly need someone who knows what they are talking about, and those who try to just rely on themselves quickly find out what major disaster that is.

Sally it's pretty obvious every wants things simple and easy; without paying exorbitant fees. I can't even imagine what the population today would be if physicians operated like this. A license means something to me. That Pro Se Divorce sounds pretty scary to me and more costly in the future.
