Narragansett Multi Million Dollar House Built on the Wrong Land to be Moved

This has been a 5 year battle to have this Narragansett Multi Million Dollar House Built on the Wrong Parcel of Land to be moved from its location to its right location.Narragansett oceanfront at 1444 Ocean Rd to be moved  The Superior Court just decided that the deadline is December 31st for this $1.8 million oceanfront Narragansett RI real estate home that was mistakenly built on the Rose Nulman Park land in 2010.  Not only must this three story home at 1444 Ocean Road be relocated to the right property next door but the septic system and driveway of this house must be removed and restored for the Park.

Sounds like a crazy story, right?  What builder in his right mind would build on the wrong parcel of Narragansett oceanfront land?  Well according to court documents the builder, Lamoureux, built the home relying on a survey and engineering done by the company he hired.  Have not heard what other litigation is going on but local Rhode Islanders suspect there is so much more to this story than we are being told!

Save the Bay tried to stop the house move via the Superior Court since it was felt that it would be close to wetlands.  The court upheld Coastal Resource regulators decision to move the house.

Why do you have a good real estate agent when you are buying a house such as this?  You want to ensure your setbacks and boundaries of your home are where they should be.  That is how this whole mess was discovered by a home buyer who wanted to buy this home and had the property re-surveyed!

Well this developer has until December 31, 2014 to move the house and plans are already underway to move it shortly.  The Rose Nulman Park will be satisfied that they will have their land back and the developer of the Narragansett house being moved...well I assume life has not been very pleasant for him these last few years!

Ginny I would hate to be that survey & engineering company that messed up.  They will probably be out of business after paying the law suits they will be hit with.

I'm surprised that they were given such a short time to get the house moved. What a mess for the owner!

Ginny.... this is an incredible story and I hadn't heard about this case before. Fortunately, I believe these types of mistakes don't happen all that often.

It happens more than you think. Not wrong side of street, but over the line and then you find everyone on the street is off, over the line and no one knew. Done so long ago.

Hi Ginny - I had heard about this on the news and cannot imagine how a mistake like this could have been made. Imagine the expenses, and hope the company that surveyed the property has good E&O.

I've heard this story here in IL & am always baffled when this stuff happens in this day & age. Anything can be reverified quickly so I'm still stumped.

I also think the house is going to be moved what 50 feet? That will cost probably a mil & the poor builder will have to go belly up afterwards. The lender has to be freaking out also as his 'asset' is getting shifted from one lot to another.

It is truly awesome to see a house get moved. When I was a kid I saw 2 moved & it was the highlight of the year for kids miles away.

Ginny - holy cow! To the folks who get aggravated when local authorities want new and updated surveys - I'm going to save this article. To the builder who relied on what he thought was accurate - what a mess, to the homeowner this has got to be more than a nightmare and I wonder if they'll ever want to even move in......
