Frying Plantain

Catch up with Eastvale Team Realtor, Sarah Oswald today in her kitchen today, frying a plantain. Here is a look at the final product:

Fried Plantains

These do not taste anything like a banana. Trust me. They only look like one. They taste more like a yam with a delightful crunch to them when fried just right like these were.

Hi Lanre - Sorry about that...it is corrected. I have never been a huge fan of banana. I actually get physically ill due to the aroma. But plantain is delicious. My niece introduced me to it about 2 weeks ago and it was a challenge to myself to try something new. (S)

Hi Michele - I am tempted to fry it to a crisp the next time around. I am wondering if I should have waited till the plantain riped a little bit more? (S)

Sarah & Les- when I was in graduate school in Houston, one of my fellow students was from Columbia.  We drove all over town once trying to find her some plantains.  We found them, she prepared some for me and I still love eating them.

Sarah I love plaintain and I made some today.   Nice video.

If you use a knive to score the plantain the skin will come off  much easier.

Kathy,

We have always seen them in the supermarket and had no idea what they were good for until our niece suggested them.  Surprising outcome for us is that they did taste great.

Hi Sarah -- I love plantains but never attempted to try preparing them at home. Bookmarking your post so when the time and inspiration comes to me, I can attempt.
