Why Do People Live here?Home in Richmond Beach Neighborhood of Shoreline Washington

Richmond Beach is a neighborhood in Shoreline that constantly celebrates our connection to Puget Sound.  Forested neighborhoods sweep downhill toward the Sound, affording treasured views of the islands and peninsula.  Curved lanes, cul-de-sacs and private roads host generally larger homes with higher price-points compared to the rest of Shoreline.  Many feature that million-dollar view and/or a quiet sense of seclusion. Yet Richmond Beach is close to shopping, schools, and public services. Richmond Beach Road is the central arterial, delivering families to and from work, shopping, schools and soccer games.  And from there it is a quick trip to I-5 and everyplace else you wan to go.  My family is among many in Shoreline who take the short jaunt down to Richmond Beach Saltwater Park - the gem of both Richmond Beach and Shoreline as a whole.  This treasured and expansive retreat on the Sound provides a priceless tide-pool exploration with the little ones, or a special sunset picnic for two.

Parks and Recreation Facilities within the Richmond Beach Neighborhood:  Richmond Beach Saltwater Park in Shoreline Washington

  • Richmond Beach Saltwater Park - This spectacular park puts the real "shoreline" in Shoreline, and the "beach" in Richmond Beach Neighborhood - a spectacular beach and bluff park right on Puget Sound - with views of the Olympic Mountains, islands, shoreline, marine life, bird life, and superb beach combing at very low tides (complete with volunteer naturalists).  An outstanding venue for family picnics and special events, there are three reservable shelters (one on the beach and two on the bluff), and other picnic and playground facilities.  At low tide you can walk contiguous public beaches as far south as Golden Gardens in Seattle.  The bluff trail at the top provides a sweeping perspective of the Sound and the Olympic Mountains.  The Richmond Beach bluff stairs are a famous exercise venue (188 steps and home to the annual Million Stair Challenge), complete with interval exercise stations along the route, and a "lap" counting station at the top.  There is even an off-leash dog park on the south part of the beach.
  • Richmond Beach Community Park -  at the Richmond Beach Library, provides open space, a playground, picnic facilities, and a view of Puget Sound.
  • Kruckeberg Botanic Garden - developed over 50 years by world-renowned University of Washington professor Dr. Arthur Kruckeberg, this 4 acre garden is a unique treasure of over 2,000 species of plants from the Northwest and around the world.  Now owned by the City of Shoreline and run by the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Foundation, it offers tours, classes and other community events to the public.
  • Kayu Kayu Ac Park - This small park offers picnic and play areas, all with sweeping views of Puget Sound (including interpretive signage).  Tucked right down on the shoreline, it does not have beach access due to the railroad, but is a beautiful location for family picnics and play.

Parks and Recreation Facilities within 1 mile of Richmond Beach Neighborhood:

  • The Interurban Trail - allows bikers, walkers and rollers to travel through Shoreline and as far north as Everett along this safe, pleasant and beautiful corridor.  The Shoreline section was completed, rebuilt and improved in 2004, including trail bridges over Aurora Ave and 155th St.  Trail improvements continue in Lynnwood and Seattle.
  • Boeing Creek and Shoreview Park88 acres of beautiful forest with huge oldgrowth trees, trails, streams, a pond (with fish), and wildlife just south of Richmond Beach Neighborhood.  This is one of my favorite walks in Shoreline.  There is another off-leach dog park at Shoreview Park.
