Had To Get A Burn Pile Done In El Dorado County Before The Rains Today
Sure we are in a drought in El Dorado County, so outdoor burns can get a bit scarce in some years. Because of the slight rains of late and the storms that are on the way, I think the burn day schedule opened up. But who wants to burn during the rain?
Burn piles can be a both dangerous and messy if done during the rains. I went out of my way to get this burn going so that I could be done today before the early morning rain.
There are some things to remember when burning in El Dorado County:
Make sure it is a permissive Burn Day – Call (530) 621-5897 to hear recording. It is updated every day of the year.
Be sure to have plenty of clearance from flammable objects.
Have a source of water nearby you never know when you may need it.
Work with someone else. It's best to always have a set of eyes on the fire.
The fire should not be within the canopy of the trees. My fires can get pretty hot and could ignite surrounding foliage.
When you are done get water on the burn area. I got lucky, the rains came at the end of my burn. :)
Drought or no drought, it is always a good idea to do our outside burns with great care. It takes a little effort but is worth the time taken. Burn safely!
