Had To Get A Burn Pile Done In El Dorado County Before The Rains Today

Sure we are in a drought in El Dorado County, so outdoor burns can get a bit scarce in some years. Because of the slight rains of late and the storms that are on the way, I think the burn day schedule opened up. But who wants to burn during the rain?

Burn piles can be a both dangerous and messy if done during the rains. I went out of my way to get this burn going so that I could be done today before the early morning rain.

There are some things to remember when burning in El Dorado County:

Make sure it is a permissive Burn Day – Call (530) 621-5897 to hear recording. It is updated every day of the year.

Be sure to have plenty of clearance from flammable objects.

Have a source of water nearby you never know when you may need it.

Work with someone else. It's best to always have a set of eyes on the fire.

The fire should not be within the canopy of the trees. My fires can get pretty hot and could ignite surrounding foliage.

When you are done get water on the burn area. I got lucky, the rains came at the end of my burn. :)

Drought or no drought, it is always a good idea to do our outside burns with great care. It takes a little effort but is worth the time taken. Burn safely!

Tom, the only thing better than returning home yesterday dog tired from a week long get-away and 8 hour drive home was waking up this morning to the sound of rain. I saw so much more evidence of drought while driving to and from San Diego. Glad you got your burn done!

We have bans from May until October annually here.  We need to do our yard soon.  We burn the undergrowth a little at time in our woods.  It helps keep the wildfire danger down to rid the ground of fuel for a wildfire.

Tom,

We too have burn bans, but we have had some good rain lately but not in all of Texas! Good info to let the locals know! I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

Tom I have found that most places now ban Burning because of the pollution they cause....it makes me more concerned when there is a drought that the risks of burning outweigh the good they cause...just sayin, Endre

Good morning Tom. Even though we have had a lot of rain, my burn pile has to be in a contained area. The firemen and police are really stringent in this area.

Good morning Tom. We don't always get permission to burn when we ask for it, I think they understand conditions better than I do.

Good morning Tom,

Excellent information to get out there for your area! We won't be burning anything in Austin with our drought going on.
