Sometimes.....
**Reblog**
The life of a Real Estate professional can be chaotic at times. We can plan and schedule, but that doesn't mean that's how the week, or the day will work out. We were supposed to have a closing on Wednesday, that ended up happening on Friday. It's not what we wanted, we had planned to have company, but we had to rearrange our day to make the closing happen for the new construction builder and their year end!
We need to take full advantage of our opportunities to watch a movie, or a tv show with a loved one. Get the car washed. Visit Santa, or play Santa for someone else! Or just make time to "throw some rocks".
This is another great post, that should have been featured! We all need to hear this message!
I wrote about this in one of my first blog posts here in Active Rain, but lately I've been thinking the same thing so I think it's worth a repeat.
Years ago when my oldest son was about 7 or 8 (he's 31 now) we lived in Fort Lewis, WA. I was in the Army and worked at the hospital on post. We lived in post housing about 2 miles from the hospital and I used to walk to work most days.
One day my son had a doctors appointment and my wife dropped him off at the hospital so she didn't have to drag the other kids along or find a baby sitter and I took him to his appointment. When we were finished we headed home.
As we were walkign along my son said, "Dad, slow down. I can't keep up?" I told him I was sorry and that I wasn't used to him being with me when I walked. "I know Dad. You are always busy. You never have time to just throw rocks or something."
Ouch! For the next half hour that's exactly what we did. We just sat there in the woods and threw rocks. To this day whenever life seems to be speeding along at breakneck speeds, I hear that little boy's voice reminding me to slow down. To take some time to decompress. To just sit and throw some rocks or something.
Now with grandbabies it seems even more important. Mom and dad are busy. Grandpa is too, but the beauty of real estate is the freedom to take a few minutes out of the day to spend some time just throwing rocks. Even if you aren't in real estate you can still take a few minutes to just stop.
Try it sometime. (Don't throw them at anything that will get you in trouble) You may just be surprised how good it makes you feel.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
