Monday Motivation

Finish Strong!

A few months back I had the opportunity to attend the Biggest Loser 5K and 1/2 Marathon.  It was an inspiring event!  This was my sisters first 1/2 Marathon.  Not only did she beat her goal, but she did so with vigar!  I am so proud of her.  However, that is not what this blog is about!  As I watched all the walkers and runners rounding the corner and all the folks there to cheer them on, I heard these words over and over again; "Finish Strong".

Debby's 1/2 Marathon Time!

It especially hit me when the woman in the picture below was coming to the finish line.  Before she rounded the corner, her daughters told the MC of the event her name and a little of her story.  As this woman rounded the corner and walked toward that finish line, it wasn't to be the first to cross or break any records.  It was simply to finish and to finish strong.

When she approached the finish line, she had all she could do to dig down deep and keep going.  The MC and the croud screamed and cheered; Come on, Finish Stong!  You can do it!"  As she approached the finish line, you could clearly feel the emotion filling the air.  She stepped over the finishline and for a brief moment stopped, bent over, clasping her hands to cover her face.  It was then that I saw the cane she was carrying.  Then summoning everything she had in her she stood up strait, lifted her arms to the sky, cane in hand and proudly stepped over that forward to collect her medal.  Needless to say, there was not a dry eye in the crowd!

The Medal

So, as we enter into the final month of the year, don't let yourself get too distracted by everything else.  What is it you can do today to make sure next year is your best year yet?   Enjoy the holiday magic, but dig down deep and make sure you finish strong!  If you have a moment that you "just don't want to", think about this race.  There were people of every age, size and ability their!  And they chose to get off the couch, put their running shoes on and Finish Strong!

Let it Rain!

Stop it, you're making me emotional!!!  That is so cool and so admirable.  My wife has done 2 1/2 marathons and I cry every time she crosses the finish line. Being there amongst the cheering crowd is inspirational just as much as the strong men and women who cross that finish line!

I'm wishing you to finish strong and keep on going strong ( because sometimes the finish line is not as important as just to do your best all the way you can).

You are absolutely right Inna Ivchenko!  How you get there, how you conduct yourself each and every step of the way is even more important.
