Whoa...I Got My Medicare Card Today!

Medicare cardI've heard since I was fifty or so that you're only as old as you feel! I feel pretty good these days, but no matter how you cut it, getting that Medicare card makes you feel a little old.

I turn 65 TODAY!

It does mean that my health insurance costs will be going down. That's a real good thing! My knees are in bad shape and I'll probably be able to get them fixed now.

I think I get a discount for haircuts at Great Clips. That's good too! I've been getting my haircuts on a regular basis so I don't want you to think I've been holding off waiting for the discount to kick in. But...two dollars is two dollars.

I still have two kids in college and those costs don't go down now that I've turned 65. I wish they did.

All in all I don't feel much different than I did when I was 64. I'm still blessed with good health, a wonderful family, and outstanding friends including many I have met on ActiveRain.

One difference...now I have that Medicare Card to remind me I'm 65!

I would also suggest getting a supplemental coverage to take you to zero deductible for most medical issues. I know that in the last two years on my annual cancer checkups and scans I saved over $10,000 form the days previous to the ACA where you had higher deductibles and non-allowables. Mine is with BCBS directly and although it went up to $154 next year it is still a big money saver. FYI, this may be too much info buy Humana has a great prescription plan unless you need heavy medication.

Tom- welcome to the club.   I love Ron & Alexandra Seigel birthday policy of celebrating for a month and yes to what Dick Greenberg said.  I'm merrily being immature since "young" is no longer an option.

Tom, NO WAY you're sixty-five! Sorry, not buyin' it. I couldn't take the step and get an AARP card, for the same reasons. And I'm a mere 58 and a half!!!
