If there's one thing that seems to always hold true, it is that bad news sells better than good news. As an agent in the Atlanta Metro Area, I have recently been receiving questions and concerns from out of state clients that are relocating regarding our water shortage. Clients have told me that they heard that we are only allowed to shower a few times a week, have limits placed on our taps, and other creative doom and gloom variations. The truth is that we had a stretch of very little rain for a while and our water supply was depleting. As a precaution, some restrictions were put in place - exclusively pertaining to outdoor water use (watering the lawn, washing cars, etc.) It is clear to me that our weather pattern has shifted back to ABOVE normal rainfall amounts now. It is raining heavily (expecting 3+ inches tonight alone) as I write this. There was an article in our local paper last week or the week before indicating that the water levels in Lake Alatoona have gotten back to normal levels. It never got so bad. All it meant is that we were not able to use outdoor watering. They are keeping some of these restrictions in place as a precaution just in case and, quite honestly a bit of water conservation is always a good thing even when there are not drought conditions. However, this is not a reason not to live here. Think of the contradiction: one week, the media reports about our drought conditions and exaggerates the severity. The very next week, they are talking about the devastation caused by our tornadoes (hard to have tornadoes without rain). If you're thinking of moving here, don't worry about the drought. If the taps run dry, I promise I will share my canteen of water rations with you :)
