It is easy to rent any equipment you need such as bicycles, canoes or kayaks. You can even take a boat ride on Lake Myakka or a tram ride in the park. Many wild animals live here. There are even rumors of the Florida Panther visiting from time to time. Frequently seen creatures are tortoises, snakes, alligators, armadillos, birds, wild deer and wild pigs.

Sarasota has museums and an entire neighborhood devoted to art galleries. The Ringling Museum is three museums in one. There is a fine arts museum with many visiting exhibits, a circus museum and the beautiful former Ringling Mansion, an Italianate home of lovely proportions with a wide ocean front veranda and steps leading directly into the Gulf of Mexico. This is an excellent place to spend the day, and you should definitely try the restaurant. Great Expectations was filmed on the Ringling site before renovations began. You will be likely to enjoy comparing before and after impressions when you get the opportunity to see the movie.

Driving just one hour north to Tampa, you can visit the famous Busch Gardens. Orlando is 2 hours north of Longboat Key. The well-known theme parks Disneyworld and Universal Studios are great fun to visit and residents can get a substantial discount on annual passes.

Getting to Longboat Key is easy. It is close to I75 and nearby Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. There is an Amtrak train station just one hour away in Tampa.
