Travelling in XXI century - you wouldn't believe

My Mom is 62. By this age she learned to hate travelling, so when she has to, it'd better be short and fast. Nothing like her recent trip from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine to Toronto. It took her over 57 hours, while normal travel time should take about 12 including boarding, security and luggage pick up.

Bad Travel experience

As I mentioned, normal travel time would be around 12 hours - 1-hour flight from Ivano-Frankivsk to Kiev, and about 8 hour flight from Kiev to Toronto.

What my Mom hadd to go through in reality is just insane and unbelievable....
Flight from Ivano-Frankivsk to Kiev is cancelled (noone really knows the reasons) - she has to take an overnight train - 1 hour vs. 13 hours
Flight from Kiev to Toronto is cancelled (political situation, we've been told) - Mom has to take another train to Moscow - another 14 hours
Flight from Moscow to Toronto gets cancelled (again, no reasons explained) - Mom is being placed on the flight Moscow-Amsterdam instead - another 6 hours (about 4 hours flight to Amsterdam plus 2 hours waiting time before the flight to Toronto)
Now we are getting to the most exiting part - right after Mom arrives to Amsterdam. If her previous misfortune could somehow be explained - political situation, wars and riots, enemies of the Queen and so on, what happens after is just completely ridiculous.
Flight Amsterdam - Toronto, yes, you guessed right - gets cancelled due to "technical difficulties" - I am thinking they scotch-taped the tail and it froze and fell off! And Mom gets placed on a flight to !!! Vancouver !!!!. Yes, out of all Canadian and American cities - Ottawa, Montreal, St. Johns, New York, Chicago, Buffalo, even Winnipeg, Atlanta, Calgary, she has to go to the West Coast when she is aiming for the East. Another 10 hours!
And finally Vancouver to Toronto, just 5 hours.....
The best part is that the tickets were bought well in advance - in August. Now I am wondering how far ahead of XIX century are we?
