Pleasant Story About the Police

A big thank you to the Harrisburg Police Athletic League for their continued efforts to build trust and peace in the community by sponsoring the “Shop with a Cop” event.

Tonight 93 underprivileged children between the ages of 6-18 met at the Heinz Senior Center in Harrisburg where they ate dinner, then travelled by bus to the Wal-Mart Super Center.  The children each received $100 to shop with a cop for appropriate gifts for the family such as clothes, shoes, and toys.

After they completed their shopping, they returned to the Senior Heinz Center where the officers helped the children wrap the gifts they purchased.

Isn’t it great to hear an upbeat story about the police!

Debbie, The local PAL sponsors an after school program:  tutoring, basketball and baseball.  Throughout the year, they have special outings, depending on their budgets.

Good morning Bette. This is a very nice and welcome story. I think it is a very hard time to be in law enforcement and there are many many good cops.

This is such a beautiful story!  What a wonderful program.  This is one of the best ideas I've heard of for giving back to the community.  They aren't just giving toys to kids, they are giving the kids the opportunity to have gifts for their family. Beautiful!

Bette,  I wonder who felt better at the end of the night - the cops or the kids. I bet that cops hearts were swelling with goodness. A lot of what the cops see on a daily basis is the darker side.  What a wonder event!!

Bette, we had that program going on here a couple years ago.  I haven't heard anything since then.  I think I will do some research.  It is a great thing to do!

Hi Bette,  The police are human after all!  It's nice to see them get some credit once in a while.  They are always playe the bad guy, while the fireman is always shown as the hero.  They are both Heros to me.

Good morning Bette. Cops have been getting a bad rap lately, so anytime anything like this happens, it puts them in a much better light. Neat program for sure.

Thanks for sharing this exceptional holiday program. A real estate office could have the same kind of program to help children in need.

Debbie,

I know there are many other stories out there about the good policemen do, I would like to concentrate more on that than the negative....
