Holiday Decorations in Naples Idaho
Christmas and the Holiday's bring on such a multitude of decorations. Along with the decorations come warmth of emotions. A time when we can openly say thank you, or express our gratitude to someone for being in our lives. It can be a time of family and friends along with memories of past, both cheerful and sad. With this Holiday Decorations in Naples Idaho post for Debbie Laity's contest I will focus on the cheerful. As we know that can sometimes tug on the heart strings as well.
Mom truely loved Christmas and always made it special. Most likely part of her has stayed with me through the years in how much I love the season and the decorations. The 'Christmas Corner' pictured above is but a small portion of my many decoration, yet so rich with memories.
With the close up of the stockings you can see the one with my name. Crocheted by Mom over 30 years ago. Just to the right of that is Halley's Stocking. It has been passed down, to her, from Bilbo, via Santa at 'Big Dog' in Truckee over 15 years ago, with Grizzly having enjoyed it only 2 years.
The small tree on the table Mom gave to me as a Christmas gift over 20 years ago. Next to that is a picture of her and my Aunt Pat who Mom loved dearly. Maybe 20 years ago on that one as well. All the little figurines are what Mom picked up over the years.

There was a Mikassa China store in South Lake Tahoe. They had a year round Christmas section and I loved going there no matter the time of year. If I bought anything it would be for Christmas. I would purchase mail order as I did with the Thomas Kenkaid Snowman seen just below my stocking. There was a Truckee, California store called Dansk that I could hardly wait to go to after Christmas. The Snowman, with candle for the hat, and the cool black Snowman hat by itself sitting in the middle of the shelf .

I have an affinity for Snowmen. I had to laugh this year when I purchased my most recent addition to my Christmas collection. I also had to share, the picture, with my former wife simply because we often joked and said we would not be caught dead with one in our yard. I guess I was not quite as serious as she was, as can be witnessed with this 10' inflatable Snowman!
Every year my Christmas gift comes long before Christmas. It is with the unpacking of all these treasures, of themselves, and of memories past.
With Mom's passing came the task of finalizing paperwork etc. While cleaning her wallet I found a small newspaper clipping that she obviously had kept in her wallet for a long time. My reading of it enlightened me to a piece of Mom I had not yet ever realized. I will always keep it with the picture, of her and I during a Holiday Dinner, you see to the right of the 'Christmas Corner'. If I may share, it reads:
Good - By, My Son
Childhood is a magical moment, the briefest moment of them all.
The sons who once held my hand in confidence
now walk in places where I cannot follow.
Perhaps Christmas, for most of us, is a chance to briefly revisit those 'magical moments' of past...
