I thought about writing this at the first of the new year, but then I thought about how busy we are, sometimes we don't even take time to think about some new years resolutions.  So I figure why not start talking about this early.

I know the holidays are here and it is easy to spend extra using money we really shouldn't use, (those credit card payment funds) or using credit, to much of it for the big day of Christmas.

But, what if these last few weeks we become frugal?  When the new year comes, there is not so much debt to pay off , that would be a great start .

Or maybe you are someone already done shopping and in debt up to your eyeballs, then I challange you to stop spending anymore for Christmas, and to start planning on paying the debt down.

I think here are some steps you can take right now to prepare for some new credit next year.

1. Save - any amount of extra money, or gifts of money, or money saved from not spending into an savings envolope.

2. Spend less - I know there are just a few more days left, so shopping for food and other things, get every deal you can get and save.  Ask yourself "do we really need that ?"  Use coupons.  Cook homemade instead of premade.  Less driving trips to the stores, save gas expenses.  Put it back - I do this all the time, my shopping cart is getting full, I look at the things I need, not want, and I calculate how much I would save if I put it back on the shelf.  The other day I did this and saved over $100, because I really only needed 3 things, not 30.

3. Keep current bills paid on time - don't sabatoge your credit any more.

4. New years garage sale -  have you ever heard of this one ? I don't think I have but what a great idea, if you have a side garage door, you can get rid of things you don't really need and put the profit in your savings envolope. Next year you can organize a Christmas one - this would be great for budget shoppers , looking for things for Christmas.

5. Start getting your bills and expense together to evaluate after Christmas day.  After Christmas go through them to see what your dealing with.

6.  Make a new budget, not like congress did, a frugal budget - we have some tools that help you do this. Click here to read  (use the money you put in the envolope for this tool)
