ASK AN AMBASSADOR: CURTAINS! Foiled Again!!
There's a reason we prefer to blog earlier in the day rather than later in the day. The earlier in the day, the less likely circumstances start dictating our actions. Take last night for instance. We'd gotten our blog post up earlier in the day, but (as happened frequently lately), Rain play time had been pretty limited. Comment time in particular has taken a big hit lately, and sometimes it's into the evening (sometimes LATE in the evening) before the opportunity presents to visit our Rain friends.
Last night, CURTAINS. A quick check on Facebook and it was apparent it wasn't just us. So the plans of mice and men, etc., no comments to leave.
Now before fretting over AR maintenance, we always figure they've got a good reason to take down the site, especially in a case like that where it's unannounced (unless we missed something).
For those newer to the platform, the CURTAINS screen is actually VERY infrequent nowadays. Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away (oh wait, shouldn't have watched that movie trailer)....anyhooo....downtime used to be pretty common, and pretty frequent. For all the "evil" attributed to Trulia and the syndicators, a tip of the cap needs to be given to them and the crew that stabilized ActiveRain. Hardware and software updates were made and the CRUCIAL tasks we need to do (like BLOG) can be performed with only rare disruption. And I haven't seen Raincoat Chihuahua in weeks!
Yes, I consider it MY fault if I hit submit on a post without FIRST having a copied version somewhere because I SHOULD know better (insert quote about those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it).
But outside of that, the bulk of the AR glitches fall into what I consider MINOR annoyances (although your threshold for pain may be different than mine!).
But lessons learned from the days of yorn:
- POST EARLY, just in case AR OR your life gets wonky
- Be prepared to clear cookies/cache after CURTAINS have appeared
- And be prepared for some things to maybe be a bit quirky after the curtains are lifted (e.g. today our email notifications and My Home notifications are AWOL).
- Check the AR FB pages if you're having trouble and you can quickly find out if it's just you, or all of us.
But all in all, no biggie. So we missed some chances at commenting yesterday, we can make some extra comments today. The Rain is still our favorite place on the web.
