With gas prices soaring there are a lot of people trying to come up with alternative to driving.  I have even seen Huntsville Alabama Real Estatean increase in bikers around Huntsville lately.  One of the Realtors in my real estate office even made a comment about going to show houses on a bicycle or a skate board.

I have a really good friend whose father is an avid biker.  He is up to about 100 miles per week.  YES!  I said 100 miles a week.  Thats 20 miles, five times a week.  WOW!!  He has a mercedes bike that will knock your socks off.  Even if you do not want to go to that extreme you still might want to consider the benefits of biking.

  • Save on gas!
  • Burn calories!
  • Great exercise!
  • Improve your health!

Huntsville Alabama Real Estate BlogI even read an article that said regular bike riding increases your assertiveness because riding in traffic makes you a more confident person.  I'm not sure about that one but more confidence never hurts anyone.

Did you know May 12-16 is National Bike to Work Week?

Give it a try!!  You never know you might like it and find yourself another great hobby or way to exercise!!

Kimberly: I like to bike, but I prefer walking when around traffic. I am thinking of getting a knapsack and getting groceries as a way to save on gas and exercise.

Kimberly ~ Biking to work is an excellent idea. It does offer the benefits you mention. Who doesn't want to burn calories and save on gas? I know I do! (I'll let you know if I decide to start biking to the office.) :-)

Hi Kimberly,

We were just talking about this yesterday. For me it's no problem to bike or jog to work, I've done it many times. I'd like to figure out how to have a "driving free" day at least once a week.

Today was spent at the beach biking the beach train. Last week we biked down to the beach from a friends house, nice 30 mile trip, great fun.

Kimberly - Sound like a great idea to me.  I am thinking of getting on my bike although just for fun.

I just don't see as real estate agents how we can give our vehicles up!  50% of this business is running clients around.  And even if you could ride a bike to a listing appt how the heck are you supposed to look professional after being blown around in the wind for an hour or two?

I was just reading David Bach's new book "Go Green, Live Rich".  In it he shares that in Copenhagen, Denmark, 36 percent of the population - about 600,000 people - bike to work and school every day on more than 200 miles of bike lanes.   If we could follow Denmark's example and create more bike lanes and encourage people to explore this mode of transformation, we'd all be healthier and our cities would be less polluted.

Please join our Optimist group and post this there!  Thank you, Kimberly!
