Winter Solstice is Here
Come celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center this Friday December 19th at 6:30pm. Throughout history, cultures around the world have celebrated the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, as a time to reflect on the past year and look with hope to the coming year. Families are invited to rejoice in a celebration of that tradition. There will be a Naturalist led twilight hike, kids Nature crafts like pinecone bird feeder, a festive bonfire & Wassail made over the fire & yummy seasonal snacks.

Snuggle Up For a Good Story
Who doesn’t love live storytelling of a Christmas classic? West Towne Barnes & Noble wants to share a Christmas classic with you, Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer during their Holiday Classics Storytime this Friday December 19th at 7pm. What a wonderful time listening to this Holiday classic. Listen to this tale of persistence and triumph over great difficulties.

Not All Trees Are The Same
Find out about species of conifers during “Conifers” an UW Arboretum Walk this Sunday December 21st at 1pm. This free naturalist-led hike will show how the Arboretum is home to many species of conifers. The tour visits pines, spruces, firs, and many more. Please make sure you dress for the weather.

A Warm Bonfire to Welcome Winter
Friends of Starkweather Creek are hosting their 13th annual Winter Solstice Celebration this Sunday December 21st from 4 to 7, this free event, held below the sledding hill at Olbrich Park on Lake Monona, features ice lanterns, hot chocolate & cider, drumming, singing, dancing & a bonfire lit after 4:30 pm. Bring thoughts to forget and lose in the fire ash, wishes to ascend with the smoke and hope for more light in our lives as we celebrate the beginning of the long night.
