Great Menorah Car Parade & Menorah Lighting of Merrick, NY
An annual tradition brought to you by the Chabad of Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh -
Together in the rain, over 40 cars spread the light of Chanukah through the streets of Merrick & Bellmore, and then joined together for a special celebration...
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, we welcomed and publicized the first night of Chanukah by lighting the first candle on the 12 Ft. Menorah at the gazebo at the Merrick LIRR.
Those who braved the wet weather enjoyed dancing to lively Chanukah music with the 'Dancing Rabbis', and finished off 300 potato latkes and jelly donuts!
Completely oblivious to the News 12 film crew, there I stand, in my grey, winter hat and coat, experiencing a quiet moment as I watch the program.
The holiday commemorates, most notably, a few precious drops of oil that miraculously lasted 8 days; hence our desire to eat everything fried - food forever a symbol of the Jewish experience.
Watch the news clip, and hear the adorable exchange between an exuberant little girl and a reporter committed to conveying this child's excitement for the holiday.
Perhaps, Chesed - the primary virtue of kindness is what represents this season best of all, and for that matter, is the common foundation of every major religion.
Happy Chanukah!
