What Would Hemmingway Do in Vanuatu?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

In spite of the fact that I am vertical in Vanuatu, it seems like I am still sound asleep. That's because the sun is out, so it's time to rise and shine, even though it feels like I just went to bed which was, let's face it, a whole 6 hours ago. Ah, my penance for sitting at the Eratap Resort restaurant last night while the Australians ordered yet another bottle of Grant Burge Barossa 2012 Cabernet Merlot. They finished off the Shiraz the night before, much to our chagrin, not to mention, last night was the Fire Show, which is a pretty spectacular event featuring a Maroon 5 number: Moves like Jagger.

I could probably use another few hours of sleep before I head off to go fishing with my new Aussie fishing buddy, Graham. His wife had the good sense to retire early and won't be joining us today. See, I just ask myself, what would Hemmingway do? Then I try not to do that. You can read more in my personal blog today and see more photographs of the Eratap Resort in Why the Eratap Resort on Efate Island is Vacation Perfect.

It occured to me that "aspirations" might be one of those things that have become engrained in civilized man, living in an overly technical and mechanized society.  We look for creative ways to escape, because the sweet simple life as now abandoned us.  I would absolutely love Vanuatu.

As for the Hemingway thing. . .I've always been fascinated by that man.  Would loved to have gotten into his head for awhile, and even done some of the things he did, sans taking a shotgun to my head!

Myrl Jeffcoat Have you seen the movie with Nicole Kidman: Hemmingway and Gellhorn? I know there were critics who didn't especially enjoy the movie, but I could relate. I especially liked the part where she drank him under the table.

It sure does sound like paradise, Elizabeth.  I'm not sure I would be willing to leave such a wonderful spot.

Vanatu sounds absolutely perfect.  Sad that the lady on the plane couldn't fathom happiness.
