Western Colorado Says Goodbye to a Celebrity Friend
Legendary singer, Joe Cocker, considered Crawford, CO home. He had a place just outside of town called Mad Dog Ranch. Today we say goodbye to Joe Cocker. He passed away at his Crawford, CO home at the age of 70. News reports say he died from lung cancer.
Joe loved to walk his dogs around the mountains of Crawford. He also loved fly fishing. He picked a beautiful part of our state to call his home. I never met Joe Cocker, but friends of mine have and they say he's a very nice down to earth person.
Joe and his wife, Pam, left a permanent mark on Delta County, CO. They were instrumental in starting the Cocker Kids' Foundation. This is a non profit organization that was started to help kids in the North Fork Area with sports, recreation, education and the arts. Joe and Pam started the foundation in 1998. It is still going strong today.
In his 50 year singing career, Joe released 40 albums. He won a Grammy for his duet with Jennifer Warnes called, "Up Where We Belong". He also performed at Woodstock. Joe's music has touched a lot of people's lives and he will be missed. He has also helped and entertained a lot of people in Delta County, and we will all miss him, too.
Here's one of my favorite songs done by Joe Cocker.
