What’s The Next Big Thing In Real Estate?

To be successful in real estate, we have to do many things. One of the many things we need to do is read as much real estate content as possible. You can bet your last dollar that most all of the top producing agents spend a portion of their day keeping up on what’s happening in the real estate industry.

One of the many benefits of pouring through as much real estate content as possible is coming across the next big thing. And for the agents that adapt first, they have the upper hand on the ones that don’t.

Today, listening to the radio I heard a real estate segment about Matterport 3D Virtual Tours. And even though the business is in their early-stage, based on the report on KFWB, Matterport is going to be the next big thing in real estate. So what is Matterport? Matterport is a company that sells a specialized camera for creating 3-D images of homes. Now I know what you’re thinking; this technology has been around for a while, and “if” so you’re right! But Matterport cameras will make it possible for homebuyers to tour homes and see any and every angle inside the home, from the comfort of their home. It will even allow you to peer out the windows and see the exact same view you would see as if you were in the home looking out the window.

This new technology will allow homebuyers see everything inside and outside the home as if they were touring the home in person. Redfin- will probably be the first brokerage to offer potential homebuyers this new way to tour homes. They are calling it 3D Walkthrough

Time will tell “if” Matterport will be the next big thing in real estate. From what I have heard and read, 3D mapping and interactive viewing platform is not only about to hit the market, but it’s amazing too!

Got a demo of Matterport when I was at the NAR show in New Orleans. It was great. Like everything it was expensive starting out. The other issue I see is viewing it by the general public. Think I will wait for the price to come down. Same answer, the 3D tour was fabulous.

Amazing possibilities with this technology.  I imagine we won't see this for a while in low priced properties but eventually it may be as common as a standard virtual tour.

Jon-Being a virtual assistant who has done many virtual tours this would be awesome.  I am a very visual person so this would be outstanding if it comes to pass.

I am confident Matterport will be the next big thing in the real estate industry. a 3D tour sounds exciting; however, I also believe that a physical tour of the home and seeing it yourself before buying  is better than relying on photos alone.

Bill Reddington ~ I bet the NAR show was a blast! Eventually we all might invest in a Matterport camera if and when the pricing makes sense, but big brokerage companies like Redfin are in the game now and I think potential buyers are going to love it ...

Silvia Dukes PA, REALTOR ~ 10 years for now this will be very common for all listings (IMO)

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 ~ AR is the #1 place for learning about everything and anything RE...And as far as 3D imaging, all you need is a Matterport camera and a little training...

Sharon Lee ~ I am all about the visual too! And you and I are going to love this product

Jon...you are right on. The real estate business has changed so much even the last seven years since I've gotten into it. We really do need to be on top of things.

It's interesting technology, Jon.  Though I think it will really take off when we can incorporate this with Virtual 3D glasses.

I think it will take off and fade fast as something new takes over. What that will be we will just have to wait and see.

Hi Jon -- I think the public will like this but as others have commented -- there's still a significant portion of the market who needs to see a home in person before making a decision.  Matterport will definitely get more eyes to "view" a home and it will be interesting to see how the technology expands.
