Hi everyone-As 2014 draws to a close I like many of you look forward to the New Year and all the possibilities that come with it. As with any year it has it challenges and it's rewards. Over the years I have learned to take the physical challenges in stride as well as the full time caretakers challenges.
Now the rewards this year have made 2014 an especially wonderful year and have made the challenges easier to deal with. The first reward happened the end of April and came in the form of having my own space while here taking care of Mom. It is a 14x36 amish built shed that has electric, A/C and portable heaters as well as insulation and is finished inside(well mostly). I have a fridge, microwave, hot plate and a countertop oven.
It has made such a difference in my world this year. While I still have the responsibility of Mom I have a place I can call my own and still monitor what goes on next door via a baby monitor which works very well. The landline also works over here and I have a laptop that I can use to do lots of things including watching TV when I want. Modern technology has made it possible to have these conveniences.
Shadow(my kitty) has adjusted very nicely to being over here and doesn't have to worry about Mom's dog or anybody else coming in the house scaring her. She is a rescue and doesn't like strangers in the house.
Now the other reward was equally if not more wonderful and a welcome respite from my caretaker duties. I took two trips this year. One in May and the other one last week in August thru the 2nd of Sept. My first trip had two different places and the first part took me to a beautiful place in Canada called Summerland B.C. where I met my 1st AR member. The fabulous and talented Peg Barcelo. I spent 4 fun filled days there before flying into Portland Oregon on Sunday May 11.
Then on Monday May 12 a special day in my life. My birthday. Well this years birthday landed me in a magical place called Fishhawk Lake. I was picked up at my motel about 11:30 a.m. by the beautiful and A very special lady Debb Janes was my second AR friend I got to meet. Then we headed out and drove 1.5 hrs to Fishhawk Lake where we were greeted by the beautiful and bubbly Gayle Rich Boxman. The 3rd AR galpal I had the pleasure to meet.
I also met Gayle kids. Takoda and Kasa her two golden retrievers. Gayle has a pontoon boat and so for my birthday I along with Gayle, Debb and the two furbabies took a relaxing and fun boat ride and we had a lunch and toured the beautiful and mystical lake. What a memorable birthday. Later we had a fabulous dinner from chef Gayle and great girl conversation and fun with the dogs. We sat out on the porch overlooking the lake. A beautiful end to a special birthday. It was a short visit with Debb as she had to leave for business in the morning and I stayed at Gayle's for 3 full days before heading back home a different person.
Then in August 25-Sept 2 I went to Colorado where I met more rainers and more adventure and respite relief. I met Mary Douglas in Red Feathers then drove to Colorado Springs and met Sondra Meyer and Debi Boucher. I then left there for a few days and headed to Pagosa Springs. I headed back to Colorado Springs where I stayed with Sondra and we spend 2 FULL fun filled days and met yet another rainer. Dale Poll. The 3 of us packed a lot in those days and I kept up with them. Having back issues I was rather happy and proud of that. Last thing I ever want to be is a drag or a burden.
Now I do have a few thoughts and plans for 2015 in the way of travel but it will be solo travel. Down the road when I am free to travel I would like to travel the US and Canada in a motorhome so I will be attending 2 RV shows. One is in Feb of 2015 only a couple hrs away in No. Carolina and the other in Sept in Hershey Park PA. I am excited about both. I do hope the toe is better by the first one.
Now I am also looking ahead to 2016 and there is one in Tampa fla in either Jan or Feb that I would like to attend and meet some Fla rainers.
Hope you all had some rewards to offset any challenges you may have had in 2014.
HAPPY 2015 EVERYONE AND
SINCERELY YOUR FRIEND SHARON LEE
