So Many Ways To Pay It Forward

I'm sure most of you can think of a number of ways to help in your community, nationally or even internationally. That's why we are part of organizations and volunteer our time to benefit others. Here are just 2 things that we are doing or plan to do in 2015 to Pay It Forward.

100+ Women Who Care

This month I learned about a wonderful organization from my friend and fellow blogger, Susan Emo. 100+ Women Who Care is an organization (with local "clubs") that meets quarterly, asks for a donation of $100 per quarter ($400 for each woman for the year), nominates and selects a charity and then donates all of that money to that cause. Of course, that's a quick synopsis.

I was so inspired, I reached out to my local chapter and today I received an invitation to attend their next meeting on January 15th. I plan to attend and get involved!

Want to learn more? Here's a link to how it works.

Parker Task Force/Food Bank

Rich was asked to be Santa for the Parker Police Department's "Cram the Cruiser" food drive event in early December. All of the food collected was given to the Parker Task Force/Food Bank.

We visited the food bank to see how we could involved. We learned that they don't need any more bodies (volunteers). They are well staffed. There's always a list of non-perishable food items and school supplies needed. What we really learned is that THEIR dollars, can go further than OUR dollars. So, it's better to give them a check vs. a bag of groceries.

In 2015, we'll be looking for fundraising ideas so that we can bring them a check to truly give them the best benefits for those in need!

I learned that about the food banks a long time ago. They can stretch the dollar we donate and make it go really far. I think it's really great you are helping them out. This is a very worthwhile cause to support.

Kathleen~ I hope I can attend the meeting in January. Love the concept!

Kevin~ I had intended to share an story of paying it forward this month, but I wasn't given the opportunity. Instead someone did something nice for me. I'm having trouble posting today, so I'm hoping to write about it in the next day or so!

Silvia~ HEALTH is at the top of my 2015 list!

David~ I've been giving that a lot of thought. There are several things that we are directly impacted by, which we will continue to support, then we have about 3-4 others. We can I say? We're GIVERS!

It just never occurred to me Debbie. I felt pretty silly afterwards. We're planning a shredding event in the Spring and hope to raise LOTS of dollars!

I wonder if a chapter is near me.  I really always assumed when reading Susan's post about it that it was just local to her.

I always donate and try to support a local thrift shop called "God's Provision." I'm totally impressed with this group because it is run by people from all denominations. I think there are members from every church in every nearby community. They support many worthy causes, but what impresses me most is that when someone is truly in need - as in they've had a house fire or other disaster - they give what's needed without charge.

Donna, I was inspired by a very young woman in England, I think who, for her birthday, did a whole bunch of anonymous pay-it-forwards while her brother video-taped it. It was SO inspiring! I decided that for my 59th birthday, I will be doing just that, 59 times. I've already started and the ideas keep coming...!!!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to join the conversation.

Gayle, we are working on a few shredding events as fundraisers this year. We'll do our first in June or July.
