How Soon They Forget You in Real Estate

It is like so many businesses that are 'sales' businesses when you are present, work smartly and on your game, the business flows.  So it is so true in real estate when youWafting away along the ri coast step out of the arena, your name wafts along and dissipates in the air.  How soon they forget you in real estate it is said!
I am sure as more of us realize the realities of age and time passing (no matter how much we love our business), the personal side of free time, adventure & traveling takes hold.  Or an unforeseen surgery comes upon us leaving us in the lurch for support.  Unless you are a very well rounded team in real estate, once you step out for a couple of months or more your name totally disappears from the minds of clients, buyers and sellers.  It is something to consider before it happens to you.
As part of all of your business plans for 2015 I ask that you take the time to have a serious back up plan on what you would do if the unexpected happened to you. This is a serious topic and no one knows what will come at them.
Who are the teammates that will rise to support you, how will you work out compensation and what do you tell clients that contact you?  Have the written discussion with yourself now.
Having seen what Barbara Todaro has gone through as well as a couple of others made me more vigilant about doing that last year.  There is no time like the present when all is going exceeding well for you to do it.  Those are my thoughts today on the first year of a fabulous new year!

Ginny, I have always worked in a strong office without a team, but with trusted colleagues who have been able to cover for me.  But this year I am really re-thinking the benefits of a team, even if it is just one other person.  Maybe I'll adopt an adult child!

Oh yes, I had to deal w/ this in 2014 w/ my broken foot.  Luckily I have a strong team and I paid one of the members to drive me around.  Unfortunately the sales person I trained was not able to deliver and it made it clear that I need to get someone strong and in place early 2015.

It is extremely important in any service business to have a plan and to have younger people coming up behind you to take over as the founders and leaders grow old, and G-d forbid, sick and unable to work and lead a somewhat normal life. And, it is equally important that all of this be spelled out in a written agreement.  Very good advice Ginny.
