Hypnotized for Business Success

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Zion Realty

Successful people use many tools and develop habits and rituals that they feel will get them ahead or help them stay focused. Winston Churchill woke up at 7am and ate his breakfast in bed every morning while catching up with the news. Beethoven had a 60 bean cup of coffee precisely at dawn. President Bill Clinton adopted a habit of sleeping only 5-6 hours a night because a professor at Georgetown University once mentioned that the most successful people need the least amount of sleep.

However, not many people think of Hypnosis as a way of climbing the ladder of success. James Braid (1795 - 1860) was the founder of hypnotherapy and is responsible for coining the phrase "hypnotism". Hypnosis can create a highly relaxed state of inner concentration and focused attention for patients. It can also help patients reduce stress and have positive expectations about the outcomes of situations. Hypnosis has been used to help individuals lose weight, stop smoking, control substance abuse, and overcome fear based phobias. It's even now being used on soldiers returning from the battle field to help prevent PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Studies show that 5-10% of the population are highly susceptible to hypnotic suggestion, 60-70% are moderately susceptible, and the remaining group is minimally susceptible. So with all that being said, what is success worth to you? If someone told you that with a few hypnotherapy sessions you would venture in to the recesses of your mind and unlock untapped potential that could very well break open the gates of your business in ways you never knew were possible would you do it? Would the stigma of hypnosis be enough to keep you away from trying this alternative therapy?

Brian - I have a very good friend who is a licensed hypnotherapist and she's been trying to get me to do it for quite some time. I'm intrigued but skeptical.

Tom - I agree. It's a scary prospect letting someone possibly get that deep in to your psyche.

Debbie - I absolutely believe that our minds can be programmed to think certain ways.

Will - I'd be afraid of that too!

Jon - I've heard stories of people that had it done and they absolutely believe in it but then I've also heard from people who had nothing happen to them at all.

Mike - That sounds like a great blog post!

Raymond - They say you have to "empty your mind" to be able to be hypnotized but I can't ever just not think about something.

Mark - What was your experience like? Did you feel yourself being hypnotized?

I've only experienced hypnosis in a group setting and it was certainly a relaxing and refreshing experience.  I think just that relaxed state of mind is beneficial to business and taking on a day's challenges, so I'd be up for it!

Interesting.  And I have a past client who is a certified hypnotherapist.  I might have to investigate the more positive effects it could have on my work life and destressing.

John - I don't think I would be very susceptible to hypnosis but I do think I would be able to relax my mind enough to have an experience like you had.

Chris - Do it! Let me know how it goes!

Oh no!  Not opposed to hypnosis but I am pretty sure that a well honed plan for business success WOULD NOT be what pops out of my head.  Be afraid, be very afraid!

Yolanda - My hypnotherapist friend would say it absolutely works!

Jenna - You should get hypnotized and have it filmed. Let the hilarity ensue!

Anna - If my very good friend the hypnotherapist ever offered it to me for free I'd probably try it but she never has.

Nichole, If offered an opportunity to improve my business via hypnotizism, I wouldn't turn down.  A past experience with group hynotheraphy was a very positive one.

Nicole, I would absolutely do it if, and ONLY IF, the person doing it was well trained with a fantastic reputation and had a great success record. I use NLP on myself and it works. Hypnosis only works when one is willing and receptive to it. I've tried once in the past, many long years ago, and it did not work. I was blocked and not willing.

I have not been hypnotized, but watched a hypnotist during an office Christmas party when I was a new agent.  He had people do some pretty dumb things, so that is always what I think about.  I like Kathleen Daniels thoughts and would agree - I would be willing to try if the setting was right.

A bit off topic, but it reminds me of my nana.  She had 9 children.  Whenever she was asked about having 9 babies she said "I don't remember, I must have been hypnotized".  LOL

Interesting suggestion Nicole, we had a speaker at our Realtors convention a while ago who suggested this also.  I would not feel comfortable allowing someone else to have that much control over my mind, likely from watching too many sitcoms when i was young with hypnosis mishaps.
