You have made the decision to buy a new house, but how do you get started?
Here are 5 things you can easily do to get you going on the path to home ownership:
-
Identify some areas that you like and that are in your price range. This is a step
towards getting started, but it is also one that will continue until the day you settle on your new home.
- Ask your friends and family for a Realtor® referral. Most people report being very satisfied with their Realtor®, so why not take advantage of their experience? Wouldn't you rather get a review from someone you know and trust instead of from a stranger on the Internet?
- Get your financing in order. This step can be done before number 2, but a good Realtor®. will have great lender referrals. These will be people that work hard to get you in the right program and, most importantly, get you to closing! For this reason, a lot of folks find it helpful to pick their Realtor® first!
- Set up your technology. A good Realtor® will be able to provide you with tools to facilitate your search. Why waste your time with some crappy tool you find on-line or in the app store?
- Understand your timeline. Do you have a lease? Do you need to get out of Mom and Dad's basement? Do you need a bigger/smaller/closer place? Be realistic about how long it will take you to find a home and back into when to start your search. A good Realtor® can help you figure out your timing.
There are many, many more things that go into finding a new home. If you start with these five things, however, you will make your search more efficient and less stressful.
