It came as a surprise: I am President Elect for the Jacksonville Women's Council of Realtors Chapter this year, so we went yesterday to add me to the bank accounts.
I had my state issued driver's license and federal issued passport (you never know when you may get the chance to go somewhere super fun on short notice!) as my ID's.
The glitch? The bank, who happens to have my mortgage and my HELOC had me under a different name.
My married name.
I've been divorced 11 years. I remember wanting to change my name before I closed on my house 10 years ago, but it just wasn't going to work out timing-wise. And, hey, the ex is a good guy, it didn't bother me to see my hyphenated married name.
I pressed a bit that I was showing the federal government and the state government had both been provided ample information to allow me to return to my maiden name, and the bank employee went to his manager, but it was evident I was going to have to provide my divorce papers granting me my maiden name in order to accomplish this.
Save those papers - you never know when you may have to provide them!
