The King Would Have Turned 80 Today

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley

Here is a picture of the young Tennessee singer who took the country by storm. He made a huge impact on music and the younger pop culture and later made movies that are still played today. The Ed Sullivan Show introduced Elvis to the world. Apparently Ed Sullivan was sick after having a car accident so a guest host filled in the first night Elvis performed on his TV show on September 9, 1956. Finally it was negotiated by his agent, Colonel Tom Parker, to pay $50,000 to Elvis for his three performances on the show. This was an unimaginable amount for 1956.

The King Would Have Turned 80 Today

Unfortunately his lifestyle and drugs took a toll on his health and I think we can all agree he died way too early. Of course there are still theories floating around that Elvis is really alive? I don't believe it but who knows?

Yes, Kristin. Elvis took the country by storm alright. I loved his music. He did left way to soon. Nice tribute to the King of Rock!

Hi Jerry Newman,

My mom liked him too and she said people where shocked by his dancing as no one had ever danced like that in public. Morals were so strict back in the 50's.

Too bad he couldn't control his drinking and drugs.  Such a wasted talent and a tragic end.

Hi Carla Muss-Jacobs, Principal Broker/Owner,

I totally agree. I saw his this morning on a video performing in Las Vegas later in his career (sequin costumes) and he was missing words to his songs and pausing. It was a big clue to his failing health and drug use. Very sad! If he had someone taking care of him instead of spending his money plus indulging him in drugs and alcohol, he might still be alive.

That Elvis could definitely MOVE Kristin - and yes, so many rock and rollers died way before their time.  Great photo of Elvis for sure - so sexy!

Yes Joanna Cohlan,

I adored listening to Janis Joplin and that was so sad plus all the other singers before and since.

Elvis' impact on the world of music will be felt for many years after the fans that remembered him are gone.

Hi Chris Ann Cleland

Elvis was so talented and I think most of us loved to hear him sing. Unfortunatley the younger generations will get further and further away from his singing until our great grand kids will not know who he was.

Good morning Kristin.  Yes, it's hard to believe Elvis would be 80 years old.  I saw him in concert in 1974 or 1975.  I can't recall the year but he rocked the place and was indeed one of a kind!
